Submitting Your Manuscript

The team at Flint Group wants to believe in an author and their manuscript. Therefore, just like an agent or large publishing house, we look at every submission and vote on whether we should represent the author. After all, there are many book subjects that will not fit our expertise or interests.

We approach self-publishing with one goal — success.

We will consider all legitimate manuscript submissions, but we do not accept the task of publishing all submissions. Your time and our time is valuable. Our team will be honest to authors on manuscripts that probably will not be successful with us.

That is not to say those books may shop a different publisher and be very successful. The Flint Group has a finite amount of time and does not believe in the shotgun effect of taking on all authors. If your manuscript is not accepted, do not quit on your journey. Try other avenues to use your creative writing talent.

Success can have defined in many forms.

Writing a book can be incredibly rewarding with a deep sense of accomplishment and personal growth. It offers the opportunity to share your ideas and experiences with the world, even if the financial rewards may not be significant for many authors

For an author who has always had that book in them, just getting it completed and published is quite a feat. Understand that very few authors are on the best-selling lists and can live off the profits. You will discover as we go through the process that the book industry is competitive, and the margins are very low.

But it can be a source of additional income and being a published author can provide a strong sense of achievement.

Please see our Genre Focus page for a list of manuscript areas we are interested in publishing.

Success is determined by the author.

A vanity book is where an author just wants to have a book published that they can have on their bookcase. The Flint Group is not the best option for this type of author. Vanity book authors should go to a large publisher who offers specials constantly to get their vanity book published.

Some professors want a book for their classes as well as the potential for higher education distribution. We publish many non-fiction textbooks and even have a three-touch marketing plan to reach universities, colleges, and technology schools.

Some educationists want their book in libraries. We use the largest distributor of books in the U.S. that reaches libraries, mass online retailers, and brick-and-mortar stores. We can set you up with the largest distributor in the world if that is better for your target market.

The average author may sell 100 copies over the life of the book. At Flint Group we do not want to fill your hopes with false numbers. Most of our authors are first-time writers, and a lot of them go on to write more manuscripts. Once they understand the market and how to craft a manuscript for that market, they sell more.

Other authors want to make money from their creative writing skills and will put in the effort to market their book. This is the perfect client for us. We want an author that will be involved with some aspects of the marketing, such as social posting, lecturing, and book signings. The Flint Team will provide you with customized posts based on the social platform audience. We will let you know the best time to post and how to build your followers. Part of the marketing strategy may involve Facebook ads to increase your reach which we will create, place, and report to you the results.
